After World War One, Paris was still recovering. Buildings needed repairs. Roads were crumbling. And the Eiffel Tower, that giant iron lady standing in the middle of the city was becoming a very expensive problem. Maintaining it cost a fortune. Some politicians were even quietly whispering that it might be cheaper to just tear it down.
